As a diplomat I constantly look at law – and its international application – with a global perspective and often within a peace-making context. Together with a robust international rules based system, and supported by strong democratic values, international law is crucial to underpinning successful diplomatic negotiations, helping guarantee peace dividends and is the basis and catalyst for global cooperation and prosperity. I am incredibly proud of the strong part the UK – and London in particular – plays at the centre of quality legal services and dispute resolutions. Also, our proud tradition of producing inspirational and trail-blazing female legal experts. History shows us that the involvement of women at all stages of law making and in the provision of justice is crucial; and can for example increase the probability of lasting peace agreements by up to 35 percent. Stronger representation of women in law can therefore only genuinely make the world a safer and fairer place.
