Biography
Dr. Dubravka Šimonović was the United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences from June 2015 – to July 2021, appointed by the UN Human Rights Council. During the six years tenure, she visited 11 countries and elaborated 11 thematic reports on violence against women. She initiated a femicide watch as a tool for the prevention of femicide or gender-related killings of women and girls. She also initiated the establishment of the EDVAW Platform composed of 7 expert human rights mechanisms for the elimination of discrimination and violence against women.
