Biography

Ulrike Schultz, retired senior academic of FernUniversität in Hagen, early pioneer of gender studies in law since the mid-1980s, pioneer of equal opportunities work, leading national and international expert on questions of women in law, gender and judging, women in legal academia, President of the Research Committee of the Sociology of Law (RCSL), head of the International
Women/Gender in the Legal Profession Group. She has walked an arduous rocky road, had to survive many hostilities, still tireless in the promotion of women and teaching and writing on gender and law.

A lot still has to be done: against the gender pay gap in the legal profession, insecure labour contracts, glass ceilings, patronising patriarchal attitudes, master-servant relations in academia, gender stereotypes, lack of role models, connections and sponsors, work-family-life balance etc.
