Biography
Carmen Thornton, partner Thornton & Kautz Rechtsanwälte; probably first lawyer in Austria using social media as a prime tool for marketing, acquisition, and PR; author of a regular column on family law, socioeconomic and gender equality issues in one of Austria’s largest newspapers “Der Standard” and on national TV (Aktuell nach Eins / ORF). With her media presence, she encourages especially young women not to shy away from advocacy and that being a lawyer and a dedicated parent is no contradiction.
Young women are looking for role models, for ways of forming their professional and private lives online. I want to show them that women can be seen as professional and competent and still embrace their femininity. That having a family and a career is not a contradiction. The success of the Women in Law Initiative is a signal: that the law as a profession is aware of those societal changes and is willing to actively take part in them.
