Biography

Laura Carlson, professor in private law at Stockholm University; Laura focuses on issues of access to justice and discrimination in her research. Laura’s last two edited anthologies focus on equality, as well as the gender pay gap. Through her research, teaching and public presentations Laura is promoting change to greater equality, diversity and inclusion of women.

Women in law are vital to changing society towards greater equality, diversity and inclusion. The law is a vehicle for societal change, and women need to be in the driver’s seat in order to bring such change about. Not only are the parameters with respect to paid and unpaid work different between women and men, they also differ with respect to other aspects, economic status, citizenship, age, language, many myriads of other reasons. The one consistency is that it is almost always women who are at the disadvantage, and we need women in law to bring attention to this situation and to argue, based on the law, for that needed to rectify this disadvantage.
