Rangita de Silva de Alwis

Biography

Rangita is a global expert on international women’s rights & faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Law School & Wharton. Visiting Faculty Harvard & Fellow Oxford, 2024 & Hillary Clinton Global Fellow Gender Equity at GIWPS. She was elected as an expert to the UN convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and published in law journals at Harvard, Yale, Columbia Oxford & Cambridge, etc. & advised UN, EU & governments on gender equality lawmaking

I work with leaders in international law to develop new gender norms in international law & combat the invisibility of women in the evolution of international law. The growth of gender justice in law is complicated by structural gender inequalities that bleed into the creation & interpretation of law. I teach Women’s Human Rights & Women, Law & Leadership (& allyship) to a new generation of lawyers who will strengthen gender & intersectional justice in international human rights law & practice.
