Sultana Tafadar is the first hijab wearing criminal barrister to have been appointed Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel) at the Bar of England & Wales, the highest rank of excellence in advocacy awarded to barristers who have rights of audience in the higher courts of England & Wales. Her appointment is testament to the fact that intersectional discrimination can be overcome.
Equal opportunities for women in legal professions are crucial for a diverse, inclusive, and just legal system. Women face significant barriers due to biases, discrimination, and inequalities. Improving their situation is essential for promoting gender equality and fairness.
